On Tuesday morning it was reported by multiple sports news outlets that Kevin Durant expressed interest in signing with the Golden State Warriors. He said he would be willing to take a pay cut to play because it’s not all about the money to him.
I don’t get why more NBA super stars don’t do this. The Heat did it a few years ago and look what happened to them. Three straight Finals appearances. After you make 9 figures worth of cash, and have endorsements to the moon, take a pay cut for a couple of years to stack a team. High risk, high reward though because if you lose you look like an idiot for taking a fraction of what you’re worth to play on a team who didn’t win a championship, or you look like a genius for going for the ring and not caring about the money.
It’s such a smart career move to give yourself the best shot to get the ring, but it’d piss fans off so much and look bad on your image, LeBron got nervous he wasn’t going to win a title in Cleveland so he left and went to a place where he knew he’d get a ring, then returned… It’s a loophole in the NBA and their rising cap room that Durant may expose. I don’t know why more players don’t take advantage of it either.
The worst part about these rumors is the Warriors can afford it.
It not only would be absurd to have Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Kevin Durant, and Draymond Green all on the floor together, but it would piss me off because the Bulls start a very fragile Derrick Rose, an offensive mess in Joakim Noah, and an ancient Pau Gasol… How can they have four all-stars and we have shit…
Kevin Durant, if you have any integrity or love for the game you wouldn’t go to the Warriors because you want to win the title the right way and with some dignity. Please…
And anyone saying Dirk Nowitzki is going to the Warriors needs to shut up. No chance he leaves Dallas.
